Close The Leak is a service of Close The Deal LLC, Durango, Colorado. This page says what we read from your eBay account, what we cannot read, how long we keep it, and how you cancel our access without asking us.
The short version. We ask eBay for read only permission. We use it to count how many times your listings were shown and clicked. We cannot change anything on your account, we cannot see your money, and we delete our copy of the connection once your report is with you.
What we ask eBay for
When you approve the connection you are granting three read permissions and nothing else:
api_scope, which is the basic permission every eBay application needssell.analytics.readonly, which is how many times each listing was shown and clickedsell.inventory.readonly, which is the listings themselves: title, photos, category, price and condition
None of those can write. We physically cannot create, revise, relist, end, or fulfil anything on your account, because we never asked for the permission that would let us. That is enforced by eBay, not by our promise.
What we cannot see at all
- Your eBay password. You sign in on eBay’s own website and it is never sent to us.
- Your payouts, bank details, tax details or seller finances.
- Your buyers, their addresses, or their messages.
- Anything in your eBay account that is not an active listing or its traffic figures.
How long we keep anything
Two things exist while the work is in progress, and both are deleted:
- The connection itself. Deleted as soon as your report is delivered. If a report is never delivered, it is deleted automatically after seven days.
- The traffic figures we pulled. Deleted on the same schedule, within seven days at the latest.
We keep your report, your invoice and our ordinary business correspondence, because we have to for tax and accounting. Those hold no eBay credential of any kind.
The moment you approve
eBay sends you back to a page on closethedeal.us that catches the approval and shows you a tick. The approval code is held there only until our machine picks it up, is never displayed on the page, never written into a link, and never emailed. Reading it back requires an administrator login on that site.
Cancelling, without asking us
You can withdraw the access yourself at any time, and you do not need to tell us first. In your eBay account go to Account, then Site Preferences, then Third Party Authorisations, and remove Close The Deal. The connection stops working immediately.
You can also write to us and ask us to delete everything we hold about you. We will do it and confirm it in writing.
Who else sees it
Nobody. We do not sell, rent, share or trade your data, we do not use it to train anything, and we do not pass it to advertisers. The only parties involved are you, eBay, and us.
Cookies
This website sets no tracking cookies and runs no advertising or analytics scripts. The only outside request the page makes is to Google Fonts for the typefaces.
Children
This is a service for eBay sellers and is not directed at anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this page we will change the date at the top. If a change materially affects somebody whose account is connected, we will tell them directly rather than leave it here to be noticed.
